How can I troubleshoot a Z-Wave network, especially
the routing? I'm in Europe so I'm bound to use a Homepro
ZCU000 controller. I'd love a diagnostics tool like Z-seer
that works with a zcu000. Is that possible?
Try looking at Think
Essentials Professional Edition. This software has all
the features you may want to troubleshoot a Z-Wave network.
You may need to upgrade your ZCU to a ZCU201 or some similar
serial/USB interface.
I have Sylvania lamp modules and a Sylvania controller,
but I want to include a wall switch to control the lamps
and to integrate IR commands from a Harmony 1000. It seems
that Leviton has a Vizia 4-scene controller that is installed
as a wall switch, which has an IR port for remote control
integration. Can I just add this single module to my current
system, create the scenes/groups with the Sylvania controller
and share the configuration with the new wall controller?
The Leviton Vizia RF 4 Button Remote Zone Controller, RZCZ4-1Lx
would be the correct product to use in this application.
It will accept configuration information from your Sylvania
remote. Please note that the RZCZ4 does not have switching
or dimming capability on its own so you will have to relocate
the existing switch, replace it in a new location with a
Z-Wave controlled switch, or replace it with a Z-Wave fixture
module. The most common way to handle this is to replace
the existing switch with a Z-Wave controlled fixture module
remote mounted somewhere in the lighting circuit. You can
also add an extra gang to the existing electrical box to
provide room for the RZCZ4. There are special boxes commonly
called sidecars to do this. Also, please note that the RZCZ4
does require a neutral (white) wire.
I'm looking to have a touchscreen enabled with Z-Wave.
Is there a way to download it or get something that will
enable me to have the touchscreen talk to the Leviton lights
I have in my home?
It all depends on what the touchscreen is connected to.
If the touchscreen is a stand-alone device with a Windows
or Linux operating system and a spare USB port then, you
can use a Z-Wave USB stick and any number of Z-Wave software
control products. If the touchscreen is connected back to
a central home control "box" then call the manufacturer
of that box and ask about Z-Wave support. Most popular home
control platforms support Z-Wave control either through
a USB or RS232 serial port.
I'd like to control a ceiling fan/light made by Kichler.
It's about three years old. It has a remote, but it doesn't
appear to be IR, which I assume means RF. Does anyone know
if the Harmony 890 can work with this? Or are there some
sort of adapters I would need?
Unfortunately there are no "learning" RF remotes
and Kichler does not use Z-Wave for its control system so
there is no easy solution here. If there are existing wall
switches for the fan motor and the light, then these can
be replaced with Z-Wave enabled in-wall switches just be
sure to check the motor HP ratings on the switch you pick
out.
