Thought we might keep a list of what's on the horizon as well as new stuff coming out.
hit the specs tab for the z-wave info http://actiontec.com/products/broadband/zcontrol/ http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/entry/4585/act...oduces_zcontrol |

Hi been a while,
Has anyone tried the new Homeremote Pro yet? I wanted to see what was fixed and I just happend to read the license agreement. I was floored. Take a look a the EULA : it says "3. WARRANTIES 3.1 Disclaimer of Warranties. THE SOFTWARE AND ALL ASSOCIATED SERVICES AND INFORMATION (COLLECTIVELY "SERVICES") ARE PROVIDED "AS-IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." SUBSCRIBER'S USE OF THE SOFTWARE AND SERVICES IS AT SUBSCRIBER'S SOLE RISK. ALL EXPRESS OR IMPLIED ..................................." They further go on to say: "1.4 New Versions. Moshi may, in its sole discretion, add or remove functions or features, or provide fixes, updates and upgrades to the Software and/or Service. Moshi has no obligation to provide any subsequent version of the Software and/or Service" So what that means to me is that they can cancel at any time and you have no recourse and a dead product.. Tell me if I am wrong here. It just does not seem right. |

haven't tried pro. have the original system. i only tend to use the moshi part of it now for cellular access/control since i already paid for it. support is a total joke from hawking side. moshi side or crayon interface who makes moshi has been good for me so far. the live video streaming is less than desired IMO so far. always drops after a couple of minutes and i had to hook up an appliance module to the power cord to recycle the hawking video camera everytime i watch on the cell phone. horrible for the price of the camera. i was told i could try another ip camera although hawking denies this. i have a panasonic but never got around to trying it. i just use mcontrol now since i run a pc 24/7 anyways. has web/wap page for internet/cell phone access as well as wmc integration.
it funny that they said there is no remote web page control anymore...wonder how they are stopping this? if i have local web page control and just port forward like i do on the old boxes, how can they stop it? i think they threw that in as fodder for people who have no clue how to setup forwarding on a router. they are putting such blatant disclaimers because so many people were pissed off about their failed attempt at putting out the 1st gen system. had some good potential but was horribly screwed up. HD was clueless about their own product, i asked for a forum for months before they finally put one up and even then they would only respond 1 or 2 times a month with vague answers. the forum just turned out to be a place for unsatisfied customers to get together and flame hawking. this is so true that you can't even find the link to the forum on their web page anymore. lol, they probably don't want new customers to see what a total screwup/fiasco it was for them the 1st time around. just trying to cover their tracks is not going to help the product. it's a real shame. it had a lot of potential as an internet z-wave appliance. no pc/internet access, low energy consumption, etc. as far as the pricing model, i think they started seeing other companies trying to move in that direction such as actiontec so they jumped on the bandwagon instead of trying to differentiate themselves in this growing market. in the end though, just having the cell link was about $10 month anyways so if you want cellular control/access then it all really amounts to pretty much the same pricing. just that the cameras are not compatible old system w/new system. It's pretty simple how they do it. The new firmware seems to phone home to a server(. You must provide the MAC of the Homeremote to the server you log into. You cannot set a IP or port as was done before. If that server goes down so do you. They also removed the feature so you can add an IP camera. That panasonic camera you have should be put to use they are pretty bullet proof. Put that Hawking camera in the trash. That new EULA is rediculous, Microsoft does not even use anything so frikin rediculous. |

- i disagree though because there is local control which cannot be by remote server by definition it it being local. local means without internet access on your local network last i checked. if i can run the page locally, i can port forward to it. do you actually have the box or are just reading/speaking to hawking about it... They also removed the feature so you can add an IP camera. - how do you add the cameras in now? i see they have new cameras out. That panasonic camera you have should be put to use they are pretty bullet proof. Put that Hawking camera in the trash. That new EULA is rediculous, Microsoft does not even use anything so frikin rediculous. - i agree the panasonic cameras are much better. use them all the time. issue was integrating it into hawking web page and cell link. |
