Hi, do anyone of you know how i can implement de Z-Wave protocol in VHDL? Thanks The protocol is closed. Zensys/Sigma sells the chips that handle the phy/mac portions. I've seen Zigbee implementations in an FPGA that are sold as a core. Sigma also makes if very expensive to develop Zwave hardware. They spec to design parts is included in a kit and cost several thousand dollars. Unfortunately, I think this will most likely be Zwave's downfall. The amateur community is starting to turn out some wonderful Zigbee products that will be commercial scalable. Zigbee will get a big head start here. I imagine a lot will be patented as well. At MIT, we have lot of students doing a lot of projects with sensor networks. With limited budgets, guess which standard they are using? Smartest thing for Sigma would be to sell the radios, and publish the spec for the parts. Cater to the amateur community. Then have people pay for "Zwave compatability" ratings. If an amateur idea gets off the ground, then it can apply for this. Right now, we are going to get creamed by good ideas that are developed outside industry. It is a shame, as a Sigma stockholder it makes me somewhat nervous. |
