Hello, I work for a audio/video integration company in Boston, MA. I'm wondering if I can use the ZCS201 to control a Z-Wave dimmer (also from ACT) from a mac over serial connection using plain ASCII.
I'm trying to use this for pure demo purposes and do not want to shell out 100's for SDK's. I want to hook the ZCS201 up to my home automation controller (only serial connection available, NO USB) and just send commands ala.. ADDRESS1 DIM 90 I understand that this may not be the command structure, and thats its possible i can "snoop" the z-wave traffic. Is this correct? Do i have the correct hardware? I have already ordered, and have in hand, a ZCS201, ACT Dimmer and a handheld z-wave programmer. I would love to be able to just see some text (feedback) show up in zterm. If i am going about this wrong please let me know another ASCII to Z-Wave product I could possisbly use. Thanks in advance! |

Welcome to the journey this has been a good place to gather information and share experiences about the Z-Wave Technology.
Do you have another computer that has USB? You can get the ControlThink SDK for the price of the ControlThink CTZUS-1US ThinkStick USB Z-Wave Interface here is the link: http://forums.controlthink.com/5.aspx - leviton also has a serial interface device the VRC0P-1LW interface that supports "Beaming" and Z-Wave Secure Lock classes |
