Hi,
I want to develop Z-wave Java Lib.
And, It will be worked on Java 2 ME CDC and Foundation Profile.
How can I start it? Do I buy a Z-wave SDK from Zen-sys?

If your target is work in PC, you can try Controlthink SDK by using Z-wave USB stick.
If your target is embedded system or mobile phone, you may need to buy the Z-wave SDK from Zensys and start work with Z-wave Serial API.

I don't use .NET framework.
My first target is J2ME on Embedded Linux(or any J2ME enabled OS) and 2nd target is J2SE on PC.
Also, I'll use OSGi service plattform. I think OSGi is best platform for home automation, remote monitoring and remote update. Then, I'll use Java Serial API or RXTX(www.rxtx.org) for this library. Is it possible?

How can i get the Z-wave serial interface protocol specification?
Can I only develop this library through Z-wave Serial API from Zen-sys?

You should buy a Z-wave development kit from Zen-sys.

You may want to talk to Chris Walker from controlThink. I am pretty sure they were working on a Java API but not sure where it stands. Otherwise, yes you would have to buy the SDK from Zen-Sys which I think is still several thousand dollars.

The Full Development Kit is cost USD7500 mellow.gif

I think they are selling a kit just for software developers now that is about $3000 but you should give them a call or e-mail them to see what their latest offer is.

Hi All,

To date, we have had only two or three requests for a Java version of the Z-Wave PC SDK. So while we are developing some Java Z-Wave applications in-house we haven't officially committed to shipping a Java version of the SDK quite yet.

Is there a lot of interest out there in the Java realm for creating Z-Wave-enabled applications? We're already testing cross-platform compatibility with the next major release of the PC SDK (using Mono)--but we're certainly open to building on Java if the demand is there...

I'll establish small venture company provides small embedded box for Wireless(ZigBee, Z-wave) Homa Automation.
It use embedded linux and OSGi service platform. Maybe, this small box's price will be about $500.
I'd like to drop its price. Also, I'm plannig Z-Wave HA software run on the Mac OS.
By the way, I need Z-wave Java SDK for J2ME and J2SE.
David Powell
If you are going to be developing a product you should probably invest in the Zen-Sys dev kit and join the Z-Wave Alliance. This way you can attend their developers training courses and work with other companies to ensure compatibility.
Chris Walker
hyde,

Thank you for the request and the feedback. We're currently developing a Z-Wave solution with J2ME--so maybe it's possible to spin off a Java SDK from that...

Is there an embedded Linux ZWave hub in our future?

Chris,
I'm very interested in your Java SDK.
J2ME is divided with J2ME CDC and CLDC.
My target platform is from J2ME CDC to J2SE and I know almost java application is based on J2ME CDC run on J2SE.
Does your Java SDK runs on J2ME CDC?

Hi Chris, if you're still with ControlThink, can you tell me if their Mobile SDK is available, and if so, does it support CE platforms with native Z-Wave hardware (like Viewsonic V212-003)?
BTW, I can't register on ControlThink's forum for unknown reason, and no contact info is available.

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, Chris is no longer with ControlThink. I would take a look at OpenZwave. Here is the link to the google group: http://groups.google.com/group/openzwave

I should also note that ControlThink which is part of Leviton now, is no longer support their SDK icon_sad.gif
