The Future of Z-Wave Under Sigma Design?

By Randall Stickrod

The announcement that Zensys was acquired by Sigma Designs came with little forewarning, though there were ample indications that something had to happen in the wake of substantial layoffs at Zensys and a chronic shortage of inspiring news of late. The question is, what does it really mean?

My take is extremely positive. In fact I’m hard pressed to imagine a better place for Z-Wave technology to flourish than under the Sigma banner. Sigma not only has a solid track record in producing great technology solutions in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) semiconductors, they have the experience and expertise to fully support their OEM partners.

Thinh Tran, the founder and CEO is an exemplary Silicon Valley executive, both in his durability (over 25 years at the company helm) and his passion for the technology. The company’s product line is rich in complementarity to Z-Wave, and the potential synergies are too numerous to imagine.

I’m looking for a new wave of excitement and a chance to see Z-Wave flourish and achieve the kinds of successes we’ve all known were possible all along.
